After a couple of months in the corporate world, I decided that I wanted to see more of my baby (who isn't much of a baby anymore *cries). Now, I'm back at home, looking for more legitimate online writing gigs.
Having a day job was harder that I thought it would be. Travelling expenses were ridiculous, for one thing. If I took a car to work everyday, I would be spending more than half of what I was earning! I also did not get to spend as much time with Trent. There were just a lot of things I had to adjust to. I couldn't take my baby to the pedia whenever he needed a check up. Not to mention, looking for a doctor who held clinic during the weekends was quite difficult!
I'm applying for a couple of websites this week. I'll keep you posted on how it goes. Wish me luck!

Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Awareness Day
It's FAS Awareness Day today, 9/9/2011 :)
In other news, it's the peak season for academic writing websites. I recently got accepted to write for CEWriting. It's a Philippine based academic writing company. I haven't received a notification regarding any open orders, though from the briefing given to me over the phone, it does seem like a great place to earn passive income. I did not find any reviews regarding their website/company. Am hoping it will be a positive experience. The pay is once a month and there's no buffer period! So, all papers completed by the end of the month will be paid by the end of the month :)
For anyone interested, send your e-mails over to applicants@cewriting.com with your resume and a couple of writing samples.
There are a number of other academic writing websites out there, as I mentioned in my previous post. Try out these:
1. FreelancerCareers.com - this website offers competitive pay per page, depending on the urgency and complexity of the paper. They pay twice a month and buffer around 14 days. They also open up to copy writers and resume writers. Application is pretty simple, you just need to fill out a form, submit a few articles and pass a test. They pay via Paypal, Moneybookers, AlertPay and ACH Transfer. I earned quite a lot from this site while I was an active writer for them. I chose not to continue because I would rather a place that offers upfront pay. Though, they have a wonderful editing team and customer service staff. They have live chat available just in case you have any concerns.
2. ResearchWritingCenter.com - I have not really wrote for this website, but I do have a working account. The price per page for this website is not as high as most academic writing companies offer, and for most orders, you will have to place a bid. Some writers go for really low bids per page, and this (I believe) diminishes the quality of the paper. They offer papers for writers who are experienced in a number of subjects, and I do hear that they pay on time. Same thing as the company mentioned above, they pay twice a month with a 14-day buffer period.
3. Academia-Research.com - this website, like the one above, I have not written for, but I also do have a working account. I was reluctant to write for this company after reading a couple of reviews stating that they do not pay writers. I checked out the orders page, and payment was mid-range. Their buffer period is only 10 days, which is better than other sites, but not by much. Let me know what you think of them, if you have had any experience!
4. ProficientWriters.com and AcademicWritersOnline.com - these are wonderful websites that used to be under one unbrella - GlobalWriters.com.uk. Both these websites offer great pay, though getting in is quite a feat. You have to go through initial screening which might take up to three weeks. But, if you ask me, it is absolutely worth it! They offer great upfront pay that is calculated twice a month. They also offer Western Union for those who do not have a PayPal account. Both websites have wonderful staff and support teams that run 24/7. Their managers are very friendly, and they do advance payments if you desperately need it! Give it a shot and apply today. It's peak season right now, and I am sure they have a ton of orders available!
There are a lot of other academic writing websites out there! To find the one right for you, just do a quick online search. There is no harm in applying for all of them. Although, a lot of these websites do require that you pass an online test, make sure that you are ready for these!
Best of luck to all of you!

Starting Out Writing Online
I started freelancing just last year while I was in the States. I was about six months pregnant, living with my parents, bored out of my mind! I left for the US on a spree, purchasing my tickets just two weeks before leaving. I quit my office job and everything! So, I really had no plans in mind. I was pretty much a mess at that time, and I was just looking for something to get me by my pregnancy without driving myself crazy. I found writing to be quite therapeutic; not only that, I earned a hefty amount doing so! It was nice being able to work from home, manage my own schedule and buy my little yet-to-be-born baby with my own money. It made me feel great about myself, I helped a lot of people and it gave me something productive to do.
There are a number of online websites for freelancers out there. What you need to figure out is what you want to freelance. I found my feet freelance writing. I started out writing academic papers for one website called Student Network Resources. The pay was pretty good and the support was excellent. Friendly editors - namely Mark and Jill - would help writers out when they get in a pickle with customers. I remember the application process took quite some time; you have to fill out a simple application form and send in a few sample papers, as I recall. I was contacted by Lauren around two weeks after filling up the form, I had to sign a contract and fax it over to them thereafter. To qualify for such a site, you have to be an expert in a number of academic subjects (economics, law, American history, etc.). You will also need to know at least one type of writing format; i.e. MLA, APA, Oxford...
There was a constant workflow available for writers, and you can choose from a number of papers available on your dashboard. You have to make sure that you can complete the order on time and up to standard before actually taking it. Remember, this is a business, and you should respect your customer's deadlines if you want them to hire you again!
Doing great on a paper really pays off. There are a number of clients that order more papers throughout their school year, and if they like you, you'll most probably get hired again! The key to getting on your client's good side is to keep them in the loop, ask them relevant questions regarding their preferrences and always submit your papers on or before the deadline! There are a lot of very nice customers out there, though sometimes, there are ones that can really get on your nerves. No matter how rude they can get, remember to keep it together and always keep your cool! It's part of the secret freelancer's code to treat your clients with respect, no matter what.
The downside to their company is that pay only comes around once a month (every 30th). So, everything you do from the start of the month, up until the end of the month will be paid out on the 30th, upfront. It goes in straight to your PayPal account and the e-check is then cleared after five days. Compared to other academic writing websites, this one is actually good because it offers upfront pay. None of that 15-day buffer periods that drive a lot of freelancers crazy! Another thing about this company that might turn off some writers is that they have a limited quota, for new writers, you can only accept two orders a day. There are ways, of course, to increase this quota.
All-in-all, this website was great for me and it helped a lot. I do not know if they will accept writers from the Philippines, but applying sure won't hurt!
Good luck! Drop me a line and let me know how it goes if you decide to apply :)

Welcome!
Greetings! You have stumbled upon my wonderful blog. I'll try to update this as much as possible. If you haven't gotten the gist of this site, it's about working from home in the Philippines. This is something a lot of moms out there would want to be able to do so that they can take care of their kids and earn some money at the same time. This is most particularly hard for single moms (like myself) to do. I decided to put up a blog to share my experiences with other stay-at-home mothers in the Philippines. It might be hard at first, although it is not impossible! Moms can manage to do extraordinary things if it's for their lovely kids :)
Right now, I do a couple of freelance content writing for some websites. I'm trying to get my writing gig off the ground and hope to make it my bread-and-butter soon. I discovered online freelance writing in the States, where I spent the third trimester of my pregnancy. It was much easier to get jobs when you are there because they would rather U.S. based individuals. I was blessed enough to have been able to take some freelance writing jobs home with me.
This is something that really helped me keep in contact with my employers!
The magicJack is amazing, it helped me keep my online job and now still allows me to contact my current employers as well as potential ones. I hope to help people get the home-based jobs they want through my experiences, networking and advice. The internet is now becoming a common place to find jobs in the Philippines, and it's only going to become easier for online workers to find jobs with the help of booming technology.
Hopefully, in a couple of years, there will be a number of companies in the Philippines devoted to helping out moms who would like to continue their career from home. There are, of course, negative sides to this. But, fingers-crossed, there's no telling what's in store for tomorrow!
Don't be a stranger! Let me know if you need anything in regards to working online for moms, dads or just someone who would like to set-up their office from the home! I'll try and help you out as much as possible. I think that working at home to be with your kids is a wonderful and inspiring feat. Props to all those moms who have already made a stable living by doing this!
